It has been a long time since I wrote the last article.
I was so busy to prepare for an English writing test of national qualification of tour guide. I finally took the primary exam at the end of August in Kyoto. Now I have to prepare for the oral examination in second-stage examination.
This second-stage examination can be taken by people who would pass the first-stage exam. We can know the result of the first-stage exam on mid October. So it means that I have to prepare for second-stage without knowing whether I can take it or not.
I surmise the I made a few mistakes in the first-stage exam. However I am afraid that I wrote ill-directed answers especially in English writing.
Anyway, I will read a lot of things Japanese and write answers to the anticipated questions and ask someone to correct my writings. I will post all I write with a lot of picture so you can enjoy viewing.

Although there are so many kind of cell phones in US or in Europe, It is rare to find such a cell phone that has a ton of functions. The cell phone made in Japan has function of a call signal with melodies or songs called Cyaku-uta. Cyaku uta is an advanced signal which turned songs of good sound quality into a ring.

The one of reason why cell phones in Japan has been so improved and functions have been gotten complex, we could say Japan is a society of commute by trains. The cell phone replaces books or newspapers as a device to pass time during commute. As for US, they use a car as transportation; therefore they seldom have enough time to manipulate their cell phones. It is a very interesting point that improvement of cell phone could definite the life style.

This is good but a little awkward so I would change it to, 'One of the reasons why cell phones in Japan have been improved with new functions and increased in complexity would be that Japanese people commute by trains.'

Miso soup is indispensable dish for Japanese daily life. Japanese standard breakfast is grilled fish with salt, boiled white rice, pickles, and miso soup. It seems that many people who travel to a foreign country would miss Japanese foods after several days of eating local foods. Some of them would bring instant miso soup and Umeboshi which is salted japanese plum to a foreign country. I have the same experience. I decided not bring anything relating to Japanese food to France. Because France is the great country of foods. I thought I could be satisfied with baguette bread, much kind of cheese and good wine. However I missed Japanese food even though I enjoyed French foods. I could not help buying soy sauce, and miso, rice in a Chinese food shop. I ended up buying a rice cooker to satisfy my stomach and soul.

When and where can we see cherry blossoms in Kansai?
Cherry blossoms are mostly loved by all of japanese people. We appreciate the beauty, the ephemeral life of flowers which reminds us "Bushi do spirits" every early April.
On In late March, the weather forecast features the cherry blossom forecast on TV so that we can get information about where we can watch full-bloomed cherry blossom.
Generally, we can see cherry blossoms at the beginning of April in the park, along the river.
I recommend to watch viewing cherry blossom in the park of Himeji, Osaka, Hikone castle. You can appreciate the contrast of colors between the architectures and flowers.
The Yoshino mountains in Nara are also famous for cherry blossoms. You can appreciate the colors of green and pale pink in the mountains.
On the other hand, we can see cherry blossom even in late April in Kyoto. That's There are cherries in Ninnaji temple. Because of difference of soil, cherries in Ninnaji bloom much later than other kind of cherries.
Since my husband was finally able to take two days off after three month's busy working, three months of busy work, my family took a trip to Kanazawa, the north northern area along the Sea of Japan.
We took an express train from Osaka, and arrived at Kanazawa station after enjoying the view of Lake Biwa, the biggest lake in Japan.
Kanazawa is famous for the Castle of Lord Maeda and the immense Japanese garden called Kenrokuen. Since the first lord, Maeda Toshiie, had a detailed knowledge of art, we could appreciate the beautiful Japanese garden, tea-ceremony house, and so on. The most impressive event we saw was the "Noh Theatre"; that is a classical stage art performed exclusively by men to the accompaniment of recitative chants and an orchestra consisting of a flute and three types of drums. I was amazed at the Noh Theatre, which is characterized by symbolic, highly stylized acting, and elaborate masks.
Kanazawa also has another aspect: it is a modern city. Kanazawa is one of the biggest cities in the north northern area of Japan. We can go shopping at Luxe on the main street. In addition, we can appreciate contemporary art in the newly opened city art museum called Kanazawa 21 Century Art Museum. This building is white, round-shaped and glass-walled. People can enter inside and participate in art workshops, read the books relating to the art, and attend conferences for free. Of course, people can appreciate contemporary art exhibitions at inexpensive rates.
I really like to travel to cities which have long histories. The streets, old houses, castles and graveyards of lords capture my interest. I also like to meet people who are very proud of their native town. I hope I can take great pride in telling the rich history of Japan to foreign travelers in the future.

We finally arrived at Azuchi Station. Azuchi is famous for the ruin of the castle (or fortress) of Oda Nobunaga, who had been the lord of Owari and successfuly expanded his teritory about 430 years ago.
We went to rental bicycle shop and go to at first ruin of the Catholic seminary.
Oda Nobunaga welcomed the Western culture including the Christianity which had been introduced by the Missionary of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit) since 1549. Oda Nobunaga got the first Catholic seminary (神学校)established in Japan near Azuchi castle.
We offered the Lord's prayer ( Pater noster) and Hail Mary (Ave Maria) in front of the monument.
My kids offered also the cross made by woods.
This area where the ruin of seminary was located is even now called "DAIUS". It maybe comes from the word "Deus" which means the God in Latin.
After visiting the ruin of seminary, we finally arrived the mount. Azuchi. On the top of this mountain, there is the trace of the main tower (天主). Now, there really isn't anything left but stone wall and steps.
There are over 400 steps to go to the top of the mountain!
My son was perfectly willing to go up, but my daughter got tired of going upstair on about 50th steps.
She denied to go up any more. But my son insisted on going up!
I had no choice, I had to carry her on my back and her backpack until the top of the mountain...at ten o'clock, over 30 degree of temperature....
I could feel the same pinch of Jesus Christ on the Via Dororosa (ha, ha, ha!!!)
Finally we reached the top of the mountain and we could see the place where the main tower was built.
We imagined how superb main tower was built here. And we could see the Lake Biwako from the top of the mountain.
We ate rice balls (Onigiri) and then go to the museum.
In the museum of Azuchi catsle, we can see some excavated articles and CG video of the castle in a restored condition which reserchers imagined based on all kind of documents.
In another museum, we can see the restored fifth and sixth floor of the main tower.
What a gorgeous rooms! We are very sorry that we cannot see the original main tower which was burn out over 400 years ago.
We headed to Nagahama where Toyotomi Hideyoshi had gotten his first castle made.
The summer vacation has already started since July 21. I think all of mothers have a dificulty to get their kids up in early morning.
However, there is useful tips to make kids regulate their daily life even in summer vacation. One of the tips is a Radio Taiso. And you can also regulate your daily life and have a good habit to get up early by doing this exercise.
Radio Taiso or radio physical exercises refers to the warm-up exercises popular in Japan, along with the music broadcast on public radio early in the morning. This used to be one of the Japanese Government's health policies towards Japanese primary and junior high school students. Radio taiso was once banned by the US Occupation after WWII, and many other things that were considered militaristic. Now, similar to the Chinese martial arts, tai chi in China, radio taiso is considered calisthenics comparatively suitable for the Japanese elderly, and the key to a long life-span.
In summer vacation of kids, each community organizes a gathering in a public park to do exercises together early in the morning. In our community, kids get together at six thirty in the park.
After doing exercise together, organizer affix a seal of attendance on small calendars that each children have. At the end of the period, if kids attended the entire gathering, organizer would give them a small gift as a prize for perfect attendance.
The period of gathering for Radio Taiso in my community has already finished on 31 July. My kids were given a canned juice and playing cards as a prize.
From 1st August, I have to continue the gathering for doing exercises in my house to get them up early. Japan Public Broadcast (NHK) will help me. Because every six thirty in the morning, on the radio and television, this exercises is aired.
I have to also think about another prize for perfect attendance from August 1 to 31.
